Meanwhile Republicans leaders are steering clear of the same-sex marriage issue, at least publicly. But when will Republican strategists start using the issue behind the scenes to drive up evangelical votes against Pres. Obama?
Mitt Romney and his supporters say the bullying Romney allegedly took part in as a prep school student don't reflect who he is today. But certainly the way he faced those allegations this week reflect who he is now -- first he had an aide deny that he remembered an especially cruel episode where he led a gang of boys who forcibly cut another boy's hair because they didn't like its length or color. Then Romney apologized for anyone who may have taken offense in his behavior but said he didn't remember. Yet several other named classmates did remember the episode, so why can't Romney?
And the defense is about to present its side of the story in the John Edwards trial. The prosecution wrapped up its often gut-wrenching case yesterday.

It's interesting how one party seriously want's to move forward socially, especially with regard to social and civil rights and liberties while the other is always regressive and/or resistant to that movement. Sociologically the extremist "conservatives" have come to resist anything civilizing. Reality is that democrats adopted Robin Hood model - steal in form of taxation from rich echelon of population and bribe paupers to vote them in offices pretending that it is "fight for middle class". In effective society both forces are in some fighting equilibrium that mathematically is represented by tax brackets and exceptions. The upper class pay essentially no taxes on capital gains (their stocks and bonds). The upper class pays no social security tax on any income above $106,300 (if they did SS would by solvent-endof problem), 1/3 of the upper class and corporations in fact don't now and for the last 5 years on the average paid zero in taxes and that's federal and state.
People like you love to claim that they pay more but the rich get better services. The cops and firemen and other such services will 99 out of 100 times answer calls and protect rich homes and neighborhoods over lower class neighborhoods. Which neighborhoods have better lights and water etc. Do you think your commercial air flights are constantly delayed because of the excessive private jets owned by the lower classes? Who owns and pays for those airports? How about those courts that are so clogged up? 65% of the court cases are not criminal they are rich white guys and their corporations suing each other.
There is a Robin Hood model but that is fiction used to answer a real life model that has existed for millennia and THAT is the Prince John model where the rich over tax everyone else, steal all their money for themselves. They drain all the money out of society for them selves. Where they let the infrastructure crumble around them while shoring up their own castles.
The second the Revolution ended in this country Hamilton, a rich bastard who did not support the Declaration of Independence, stood against Jeffersons notion that all men were created equal. Chris said something in today's show that really bothered me. He said, in addressing the Romney bullying allegations, "do you remember the cruelty of school?" I disagree. School is not "cruel". Certain people, usually those with personality defects or severe insecurity, are "cruel". It is not the school itself that causes many people to suffer the symptoms of cruelty, but the person or persons dishing out the pain, abuse and insults that are the cause of "cruelty" in school. It was Romney and his friends that were so cruel to their classmate, not the school. Secondly, Romney says he does not remember this horrific event although he led the attack. His co-conspirators, who did not lead, but followed, seem to have vivid and haunting memories of the event. There are only two possible explanations for Romney's "lack of recall." Either he is just lying or, more problematic, he is so comfortable with his personality defect of viewing with disdain and treating poorly other weaker members of our society that the event has just melted into a vast Romney history so as to make the event not stand out from the many other acts of violence, bullying or harassment that have occurred in his life. This second possible explanation is the most troubling. Is Romney's perception of his status in society become his perception of reality? Is he so accustomed to attacking the weak with his own hand, whether by physical violence or financial ruin, that he can no longer differentiate or understand the good, humble, caring sense of being that so many Americans strive to obtain? Is his view of life so jaded or warped by his own sense of entitlement that the suffering and injustice in the lives of others is of no consequence? I am beginning to believe that this is the case. This is bigger than lying. This is bigger than a "flip-flop." This a window into the very core of the man who yearns to lead this country. And a moral character defect such as this in a leader has proven time and again to be disastrous.
Victims of bullying don't forget, and the effects (more often than not) last a lifetime. I don't have any respect for a man who not only uses selective memory to dodge questions about the matter. Didn't like his chuckling either. He has a whole lot of problems with telling the truth, showing empathy, relating to kind gestures and relating to others. Even his apology was qualified by "If I hurt...." Seriously, this guy is ambivalent and clueless about a whole lot of things.
On NPR this weekend This American Life did a program about profiling psycohpaths. The checklist professionals use relies extensively on behavior in high school. This is not to imply that Romney has psychopathic tendencies, but it DOES say that what people did in high school is relevant to their character. This argument that what happened nearly 50 years ago should be ignored is baloney.
