The Republican Party have been playing the same old broken record for 30 years. No new ideas, no solutions. At least the Democrats try new solutions and under Clinton they actually balanced the budget to the chagrin of the idealess extremist Republicans.
Well Boener, Cantor, Ryan and the "idea men" were able to get America's economy and credit downgraded last time they played this game and of course under Bush's guidance they almost ruined us so I can hardly wait to see what they do this country this time around.
But you clowns that keep on insisting that the Republicans are the "economically" responsible party just keep on living in your Fox/Clear Channel/Wall Street Journal bubble until our children are living on the streets like waifs in some third world country why don't you?
We will soon need a thousand Mother Teresa's,for the republican created shantytown's across the country.
Hey Hippie, take a bath. You are seriously going to show just how uneducated you are by dissing on the Repubs for telling the government to stop spending more than they take in. Right now 40 cents of every dollar being spent by the government is being borrowed. You don't get it do you.
If the Democratic party is the responsible party, then why have the not passed a budget since President Obama got into office. I'll tell you why it is because they don't want you to know what they are doing.
President Obama's spending is what got us the down grade, you dolt, Ryan is the only person that has even worked on a budget. President Obama is our right ling about Ryan's plan too. when he says it will cut out 120,000 kids from head start, what he is not telling you is that, according to President Obama's proposal of new spending that Ryan leaves is the same and that the disparaty is between the pres's new increased spending and leaving it the same. President Obama on many occasions talking about how the repubs want to cut out programs, what he is not telling you is that they are not going along with his new increased spending.
So, after you go take a shower go read more than just your 5 minutes of MSNBC blog and put something in your head. You need to quit smoking reefer with the Prez.
I would take mother Teresa over the government any day, she woundn't be spending 72 cents of every dollar given to the poor like our gov does.
Ha ha ha, I enjoy it when clue puppies like you who have never served this country in any way call me a hippie! Ha ha ha! When you serve even a year in any branch of the military I might have some respect for you. They might even teach you how to spell as well as how our government works.
Despite the fact that Obama and the Dems presented at least three versions of a budget to the House Republicans, the President doesn't pass a budget dude. That's the job of the Congress. When your little moronic friends keep stepping up and saying. "where's the Presidents budget?" that's exactly like saying, "We're a bunch of lazy idiots who can't or won't do our job so we're going to make the busiest man in the world do it for us because everyone knows the Congress works about what 1 out of 5 day a year when the Republicans are in charge." The President however doesn't get a break even when he is on vacation.
Now for you morons that believe your glorious Republicans are such great businessmen like Bush/Cheney, and we all know how that worked out, they took a balanced budget and drove this country into default and a huge deficit. Thats HORRIBLE business sense and your buddies Ryan and Romney want to do the same.
Business are successful because they have incoming funds, (the MOST important part of a business) and in the government this would be taxes but the Republicans keep cutting this part. The second part is spending. For a moron like you and most of America you THINK cutting spending is how business becomes successful but you don't work in upper management or the executive branch of a Fortune 500 do you? Of course not. As someone who has and has been responsible for multiple budgets worth multi-millions allow me to explain a simple concept. If your budget WAS $1,000,000 and you then budget for $99,000 you have just rung the death knell for your department and your career as your bosses will only give you that much and expect you to keep cutting in the future, until your department is gone. However if you budget for $100,000,000 you, your department, and the business become much more successful because you are spending money and forcing growth. This is business 101 and economics 101. This is why the REPUBLICANS ALWAYS SPEND LIKE DRUNKEN SAILORS WHEN THEY HAVE THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE CONGRESS.
The problem is the Republicans are sociopaths who don't want to pay their fair share, elect morons who aren't successful businessmen, who aren't loyal to this country anymore (because they're multi-national businessmen who live, own house's and business worldwide), and they have signed loyalty documents to other billionaires that they feel are more important than the loyalty oaths they take to this country (in fact many of the Tea Part republicans didn't even show up to take their oaths to this country when they were elected in 2008). THAT'S YOUR HIPPIE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
We can't stop the Supreme Courts ruling. But we can do this!

Here's a little lesson for the people who didn't pay attention in school. For Companies to be profitable they have to:
1. Have good roads and bridges to transport their goods. - Infrastructure
2. Have customers who have MONEY to but their goods
3. That means the customers have to make good wages and not be spending all those wages on rent, food and healthcare so they can buy your goods.
The Republicans have changed our society into a market society not a production society. They have shipped our jobs overseas and they play the stockmarket making investments with our money. They have shaped our laws so they all benefit monetarily from that model while they screwed us. The Dems have definitely participated but at least they care that our country not crumble and our people don't starve.
"sedwinmars" appreciate your writing! "joca41" I agree with your comment. There was a real champion of the cause in the 19th century (1880 - 1900) Jacob A Ris:

This link is an amazing mixture of Mr. Ris' photography (see above). He shows "us", America: We have been through this before.
Much like the photos of Appalachia during the Johnson Administration's War on Poverty, no doubt...
This seems to be a lesson we as a country seem to need periodically...
Agreed. You point out what happened (happens) when Government and the People work together to solve some problems.
I wish all of Congress could get on the same accord at the same time! I can only imagine how forwardly advanced this country could be if states worked together! Instead, somehow, a 21st century Congress is convinced that its job is to operate in "push and pull" (adversarial) contests. How inappropriate(!) for leaders to behave child-like, no offense to children. These are our American lives which are lived in 2 and 4 year blocks....
Are you terrified yet?
The GOP congress led by the powerless figurehead leader, John Boehner represents the biggest threat to existence that the United States of America has faced since the Civil War. Forget the Russian Bear, or Communist China This is not hyperbole, but fact. I am terrified for all of us in America; our party affiliation must take a backseat now. Our destruction is occurring from within!
Throughout history great empires have come into existence, and lasted hundreds of years before inner decay brought them down. Constructive analysis by historical scholars with significant expertise coupled with an almost god-like advantage to view and evaluate decisions and events that impacted and directed these empires to their ruin. No speculation was required by these historians.
I am sure there were thoughtful scholars that lived during the times these decision and events were occurring, warning of the catastrophic consequences likely to follow. These scholars were right, but remember, their assessments and suggestions were given in the present. The naysayers of that day, for reasons as varied as present day naysayers dismissed the warnings as outrageous speculations.
We have reached a point in America that future historical scholars will consider a watershed period. The GOP did not create the Tea Party movement, but they viewed it as a grass root force to be infiltrated, harnessed, fostered, and then, finally, utilized to achieve their own political goal; to arrest control of the branches of our US Government from the Democrats. In 2010 the GOP manipulators were very successful with the goal of taking power from Democrats. The success was astounding beyond belief. Total control of many state legislatures was also turned over to the GOP.
The laws of unintended consequences began to wreak havoc; Democrats were eliminated, but the GOP ended up with a group of Tea Party candidates, not remotely capable of understanding the complexities of legislation being proposed. But worse, the GOP leadership had absolutely no influence over them. It was further complicated by a power-struggle within the GOP house leadership. Eric Cantor decided to lead the insurrection of the unqualified Tea Party members, but the only way to lead the uncontrollable was to agree with their outrageously catastrophic approach to governing.
Speaker Boehner, feeling threatened, decided to join the battle with Whip Cantor; by making his own impassioned pleas in support of governing positions he knew to be ridiculous! Boehner will someday answer to historians for his career before country decision.
The GOP refused to let the United States pay the bills for the money it had already spent. America, for the first time in its history, was a deadbeat. Like other deadbeats its credit rating was downgraded. We all got to pay a little bit more in interest, but it added up to millions.
Conservatives aren’t all that concerned with these developments. A dysfunctional American government suits them; no functioning government means greater control for the rich and powerful. No new restrictive regulations to cause worry let the good times roll! Boehner is threatening to force the US to be a deadbeat again! It is being suggested that it is Boehner making a political head-fake. If true, he is a colossal fool on a level far exceeding Nero who fiddled while Rome burned. For Nero to have remained at the top; he would have had to first set Rome ablaze and then fiddled!
For clarity, let’s put Boehner’s political head-fake into cartoon form. A two-story-high boulder, representing the world financial markets, sits atop a steep incline. It is held in place by a big block wedge, representing US debt-payment guarantees. All along the incline people, representing countries, are laboriously crawling to reach the top. There are many standing just off the incline refusing to help, representing job creating businesses. Boehner is wiggling the wedge. A caption shows him assuring others; “I’m only going to let it roll a little bit.” Those on the sideline, the job creators, refuse to start up the incline until the nut at the top quits wiggling that wedge! The point of all this; the threat is almost as devastating as the event happening, but the fool wiggling the wedge doesn’t know it!
In my opinion, those catbird seated conservatives believe that their position and wealth are untouchable. This reasoning is a reflexive human condition. All except the fact that planes crash, but believe it would never happen to them. Kings, governments, and dictators have been overthrown continually throughout history, but the current crop does not believe it could happen to them.
My advice to conservatives that still hold sway with the GOP leadership, insist that they stop screwing with the wedge. That boulder, once rolling, will have unintended consequences for everyone including those that believe they are untouchable.
The Arab-Spring, the Greek and French backlashes will begin to look more like fabled bedtime stories! The Tea-Party people and the NRA members will not escape the carnage of job loss and mortgage foreclosures. Philosophical beliefs formed from a position of comfort will be altered by painful realities. They do have more in common with the 99% than they have with the bankers, business leaders, or politicians. If conservatives choose to do nothing, free market forces will have an entirely new meaning for them!
Interesting analogy (love it).
My takeaway: The law of unintended consequences can open America to be touchable on national security in the future, as Congress fiddles with the "wedge". Stop playing around; do not short-sheet; don't cover my feet and expose my head! This is my and your futures no matter what our ages are. It is disturbing to see elected leaders waste a single day of our collective lives! We only have one life and we get none of the time back after it is wasted! This is serious. Elections matter.
Mr. Chris,
First, I must thank you, and all of your fellow msnb companions for your difficult and wonderful Lifes Work.
Then, I must remind the Speaker that the Heart and Soul of democracies - of democratic republics is Compromise - finding Middle Ground.
Extremes lead to Fascism, Plutacracies, Dictatorships and a myriad of Tyrannies at many levels of existence.
The Art of Statesmanship is Compromise. The Constitution is an inspired document wrought from oppositional struggles toward Compromise. A Middle Ground where Everyone Sees and Experiences some semblence - some part of what they Need- what they Want - what they Desire To Be.
Please, Mr Speaker, remember your craft. Ask others to remember their craft of Statesmanship. That's what you have been chosen to Do by your constituencies.
All else is folly, and the ruination of Our Democratic Republic.
