Let me finish tonight with this Romney character.
I don't think Romney cares all that much about the presidency except that he wants it. If he weren't running, do you think this guy would be watching this or any other show on politics? Forget about it!
Mitt cares about three things: his faith, his family, his business.
Right now, his business is running for president. That's why he's interested in the presidency. It's his business to be interested. Listen to him answer questions. If the interviewer doesn't ask the most obvious thing, something that Mitt's briefers have been over and over with him, he seems stunned. He doesn't have an answer. Why? Because he never thought of that one!
Fact is, he hasn't thought about many things outside his zone of interest, which again includes his faith, his family, his business. And this is the most dangerous thing about this guy. Since he doesn't have a foreign policy, he buys the foreign policies of the powers that be.
So he sings the song of his neo-con so-called "advisers." What they really are, of course, are people who advocate a point of view — the need for a new war with each new Republican president — and they need someone in the White House to push it for them. They need a president who speaks their language. So they write his speeches. They want war with Iran. They just put it in the next speech.
This, as I said, is the dangerous part. We've had experience with a president who came to office with an empty head on foreign policy and bought the entire neo-con pitch — hook, line and sinker. The result was the one war in this country's history that truly deserves a dunce cap.
Mitt won't say a word about taxes that Grover Norquist might disapprove. He won't approve any deal to cut spending that Grover won't say "okay" to. That doesn't make Mitt a leader; it makes him "Grover's Rover." Grover says, "Fetch"? Mitt Fetches. Grover says, "Beg"? Mitt begs.
Same with the religious right. Mitt won't say a word the Pat Robertson and Franklin Graham crowd hasn't approved for his political prayer book. There he was down at Liberty University getting an honorary degree. I didn't know they gave honorary degrees for pandering.
The scariest thing about Mitt Romney is that he really is open for bids. He's sold his soul to every right wing faction that's out there: the neo-cons on foreign policy, the religious right on social policy, Grover on the tax issue.
Why have a brain if you don't have to think? With this crowd around him, his only job is to do exactly what he's told.
He's done just that. Listen closely: tell me if you ever, ever hear Mitt Romney say something that's not pluperfect right wing talking points, the exact words the pressure groups are telling him to say.
This guy isn't a candidate. He's a speaker system.

Romney, like all of the Republicans are interested in winning and only winning, not in running the country. They have no idea how to run this or any government and they have proved that time and time again over the last twelve year period.
Romney, is running on his god-given-right to lower his own (personal taxes), and he is doing it for America!
If elected he will of coarse no longer care about deficit, he has to run it up more, this way he can be magnanimous when he cuts programs for poor/middle-class!
Chris, did you pop a Viagra this morning? Your piece was Chicago brutal, yeah, it was that great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Chris! You were awesome tonight, talking about the puppet Romney. I LOVE it! We need so much MORE like that from EVERY network, but most don't have the cojones! The Republicans are really getting more crooked and greedy than ever.
I agree. There are two things these people are after. It's money and power and they don't care how they hurt this country to get it. That's why we are in this condition in the first place. To that point, those who blame president Obama for these economic problems must at the same time congratulate the republican-lead congress. This is exactly what they said they would do. They are to be commended not blamed for a job well done!
The Republicans never wanted Romney anyway! They shunned him to the max before they realized they were stuck with him!
I was watching the netcast of Fox News Sunday and wondering why half if their "Panel Plus" segment seemed to be missing. Watching Hardball tonight, now I understand why. Bill Kristol was praising President Obamas's announcement on immigration enforcement and articulating the GOP's Hispanic problem. Does Fox News often nip/tuck its broadcast to fit it predetermined views (rhetorical question)?
Mitt Romney is an intelligent, educated and maybe even a sensitive man. But there seems to be something missing or lacking in the way of a 'normal' human quality. I get the feeling he lacks 'mother wit'. Not so much smarts or know-how, but that special deeper mother wit quality that would otherwise be there to speak to the heart and to guide the conscience of this man who instead wants what he wants when he wants it, no matter what cost.
Willard reminds me of that one joke comedian from the 60's, London Lee. His whole act was playing the poor little rich kid who wanted to be like everyone else. His one punch line was, "Daddy, buy me a slum!"......PLEASE!!!!!!!
Grover Norquist has already laid out his qualifications for a President - a hand with three fingers to hold a pen. Beyond that, Grover only needs someone to shut up and sign what he's told to sign. Romney fits that bill
In this age of instant news it's been quite difficult at times to listen to the opinions of the many media faces on the ever increasing issues we as a nation face on a daily basis...I find myself relating to you Chris simply because your relatable...For the most part your thought process is both logical and evocative...My husband, Bless his heart is a Republican..Not the Neocon extremist we have seen evolving, rather what I believe is the traditional old school, less government,NRA supporter, desire to keep his wealth and have the less fortunate given nothing for so called "Free"...More often than not our individual views collide...It is perplexing in may ways simply because I don't understand the negativity....And then the proverbial light came on...We differ in one of perhaps the most basic of beliefs...The Demorcratic core is uplifting the masses...The Republicans want control...In this election cycle it is more prevelant than ever before in our history...There is consistantly an aire of hope and compromise on the left...we want to give the people that made this country the recgonition and assistance they deserve...The Democratic mission in my view is to respect rights, further humanity, protect the very core values the constitution has laid out for governing...The premise that all people are created equal and working always forward to that end is what drives most...The recent attacks, yes in my humble opinion attacks on the American People by the Right leaves no question but that the Right holds eqality to a very low if non existent accountability factor...There are many issues that have come to the forefront..Voter Supression,Aborton Rights,Equal Pay,Equal Taxation,Freedom of Speech as we witnessed in recent State Government Hearings....When an elected voice of the people is barred from speaking on the floor of the State Congress because the words they choose to use, rightfully so I might add, words that accurately descibe the over whelming feeling of many in this country is surpressed the control factor is oh so very evident...Signing a pledege to again control the American People is taking the power the Republicans seek to a dangerous level...Which brings me to the very heart of my comment...Over this past weekend in Montana at The Republican State Convention...An Outhouse was the center of Attention...It was meant to be demeaning, hateful, sacastic and controlling...Not one High Ranking Republican Party Member has attempted to apologize to the American People or object to the very nature of its existance...However most appaulling to me personally...the deep hurt I feel as an American for the Family it was intended to defile...is that a man who is asking Americans to support his election to the Office of the President of the United States has said nothing....A man of faith,a husband a father,a son, a human being is silent....At a time when this man is as you say nothing more than a speaker system for a party that wants nothing more than to control the lives of americans...refuses to pick up the microphone and let HIS VOICE be heard....Saying nothing is speaking loud and clear....so loudly he doesn't need a speaker system at all....If Americans can't hear him screaming at the top of his lungs how little common respect is of any impotance to Mr Romney and The Republican Party....I fear for all Americans because it leaves me to believe with all my heart that we have lost the one thing that sets apart form all others....decency
Elisha Birmingham,
Amen!!!!!
wow, I think this is right on. Is america really paying attention?
You have expressed EXACTLY what I have been thinking about Romney. He never talks about what he wants to accomplish as president only that he wants to BE president. What will become of America if the Republicans take over?? I am afraid.
I agreed with you Chris.
Chris ... would you please consider to encourage the
President to talk about the following and place Emphasis on the following ….
our countries Infrastructures. Protect
and defend our country.
Romney. Who is the truly Prepared
Candidate?
The Infrastructure issues.....
and Human Services
Security
Industrial Base – Department of Defense
of Commerce
Industry and Hazardous
Materials – Department of
Homeland Security
of Homeland Security
and icons - Department
of the Interior
Homeland Security (14th sector announced 03-Mar-2008; recorded

Critical infrastructure
is a term used by governments to describe assets that are
essential for the functioning of a society and economy. Most commonly
associated with the term are facilities for:
generation, transmission
and distribution;
distribution;
transport and distribution;
stemming of surface water (e.g. dikes and sluices));
heating);
network, airports, harbours, inland shipping);
services (banking, clearing);
Synergy of the Middle Class
success and Corporate success.
The success
of investors, corporations, Wall Street, Private Equities, and the economies
around the world depend upon the ability of the middle class to purchase goods
and services. If the middle class is
not working they can’t pay for these goods and services and hence the
corporations will lose money and profits.
When the corporations in the United States falter the world economies
will also falter ... hence the Middle Class is the most important factor as a
consumer that supports our economies.
The very foundation... the middle class... upon which corporations depend
are the very ones being cast out of the system of profits and gains and
opportunity. That is also why our
educational infrastructure is so very important.
Ironically
the very institution that hate socialism and hand outs are the very
institutions that were bailed out and saved ... Corporate Welfare!!! How does one look at the tax loopholes
available for the wealthy … is that not a form of social economic
redistribution? Apparently corporate welfare bail outs are
fine but middle and lower income people on welfare and unemployment benefits
are frowned upon by the so called haves.
You might say the haves feel ... “the HELL with the HAVE NOTS”!!!!
Soo the 1%
needs the 99% to survive. It is now
time for the middle class to be put to work so they can be included to not only
help pump up the corporation’s bottom line ... as corporations expect ... but
to share in the profits of the Corporations in the United States. That is the FIGHT ... that is the BATTLE.
Foreign Policy Success ….
What did the President take care of...
East.
during the end of the preceding administration.
Prepared Candidate
Think about it … Mitt Romney has been campaigning for the Nomination
of President for the Republicans for Eight years. He now says he is ready to be
nominated. REALLY!!!!
Using his logic how long do you think it will take Mitt to be ready as
a President …. Eight more years after he is elected!!!????
Sorry nominee for Republican Presidential Candidate we don’t have any
time for you!!!!!
By the way it took Barack Obama about two and one half years to three
years to be a Candidate for President and then a strong Campaigner after his
nomination followed by a victory for the Presidency. He appears more efficient don’t you
think!!!!!????
Which Candidate would you prefer??? PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!
Supreme Court
The future of the sway of the court as to Liberal to
Conservative is at stacke. That is a
major reason why I choose President Barack Obama. He will select someone on the political
scale that is between moderate to liberal.
If Romney gets elected some of the Supreme Court decisions
on human rights could be reversed.
1954
Brown v. Board of
Education of Topeka
invalidated racial segregation in schools and led to the unraveling of de jure segregation in all areas of public life.
1963
Gideon v.Wainwright guaranteed a defendant's right to legal counsel.
1964
New York Times v.Sullivan extended the protection offered the press by the
First Amendment.
1966
Miranda v. Arizona was another case that helped define the due
process clause of the 14th Amendment.
1973
Roe v.Wade legalized abortion and is at the center of the
current controversy between “pro-life” and “pro-choice” advocates.
1978
Regents of the
University of California v. Bakke imposed limitations on affirmative action to
ensure that providing greater opportunities for minorities did not come at the
expense of the rights of the majority.
2003
Grutter v. Bollinger
upheld the University of Michigan Law School's consideration of race and
ethnicity in admissions. In her majority opinion, Justice O'Connor said that
the law school used a “highly individualized, holistic review of each
applicant's file.”
2006
In Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of Northern
New England, a challenge to a New Hampshire law that prohibits doctors
from performing an abortion on a minor until 48 hours after a parent has been
notified is heard.
2007
In Gonzales v. Carhart,
the court no longer requires that the regulation of abortion by government must
protect the mother's health.
2010
In Citizens United v. Federal
Election Commission, the Supreme Court ruled, 5–4, that the government
cannot restrict the spending of corporations for political campaigns,
maintaining that it's their First Amendment right to support candidates as they
choose. This decision upsets two previous precedents on the free-speech rights
of corporations.

The Mitt Romney Economy Philosophy
Let’s all
assume Bain Capital was a great example of successful investments.
A
Boston-headquartered alternative asset management and
financial services company that specializes in private equity, venture capital,
credit ...
Is this the
technique that Mitt Romney will use to save our economy?
Let’s assume
the answer is yes. Let’s analyze the
consequence of his technique.
His technique
involved leveraging his assets to buy a beaten down company. Leverage the value of the company to get
more money than put it into some much debt that the only way out was to sell
its assets or go into bankruptcy.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I get it. His technique if applied to
the saving of the US economy would be as follows.... lower taxes, borrow from
the Federal Government ... oh again that is us ... or print more money or ask
China to bail us out .... Great ideas.
Ohhhhhhhh yes we tried that with Bush two.
Yes Mitt’s
economic philosophy to fix our country’s economic problems is a stunner!!
There is no political LINK between MITT and KOCH or ALDERSON,they care LESS about ROMNEY,and Romney knew IT.Strange it may seems, for the first time in this country politics,Republican party is spending"HUGELY"NOMINATING&VOTING a Republican party in the WHITE HOUSE,period. These"PACS"are Republican pharisees who would NEVER vote for Mitt Romney, but they are WILLING to use him as A ROBOTIC commander-in-Chief for the PARTY.@
Chris' commentary on Mitt Romney -- "I don't think he cares all that much about the presidency except that he wants it" -- is right on target. Romney doesn't want to BE president. He just wants to BECOME president -- so he can outdo his late father, whose own presidential bid failed.
Bill Williams, really good point, Goerge W & Romney father issues, and both in desperate need of oral sex!
I have never been to the Hardball blog, but this particular "Let Me Finish" piece was revelatory for me and I was moved to come to this site. It is not the analysis or information in the piece that makes it revelatory. It is not my political affiliation and desire to have it affirmed by someone on TV. Rather, the piece was revelatory because I saw in pure form an American journalist delivering an op-ed piece that cut through all the noise and gave voice to something so crucial for Americans to question: why does a person run for office? It cut through all the policy positions, all the slicing and dicing of economic statistics, and all the, well, sideshows, to get Americans watching to ask the desperately needed question of a candidate's motivations and life path to seeking the Presidency of the United States.
My revelation is that Chris Matthews is the TV news person that I truly trust, like I imagine another generation felt about Walter Cronkite. The evening news and Hardball are two different animals, I realize, but so are the political contexts they reside in. In this way Chris Matthews in particular is the equitable and necessary modern counterpart to Cronkite, because the stupefying amount of money being poured in to campaigns requires a journalist with the skill to weed out the real story from the kerfuffle, the backbone to present his opinions without a safety net, and the strength to call out public officials and guests trying to sell a disingenuous agenda to the American people. In short, what Chris Matthews did in this piece was to personify for me the historical role of the press being vital to the survival of our democracy. That may sound lofty, but with news networks self-proclaiming themselves as "the most trusted name in news" or "fair and balanced", while pandering to ratings or special interests, Chris Matthews' "Hardball" and MSNBC really ARE trustworthy, really ARE fair, really ARE balanced. When Chris Matthews closed his show with this piece, he knocked it out of the park. Did anyone else notice this?
of the newsamong all the news networks, who self-assign their public mottos as the "most trusted name in news" or "fair and balanced", it is this one guy, Chris Matthews, who
