The Republican right wing extremist theocrats are exactly like the right wing extremist theocrats in the middle east. They just can't help themselves when it comes to the "crazy."
I just can't wait to see what they do next week! Ha Ha HAAAAAAA!
They are nuts, they think they can just say anything and back peddle and no one would notice. They are bat crap crazy, lol
Mr. Matthews, how can you possibly report "your version" of "…there should be some punishment, but the punishment should be on the rapist, and not attacking the child." as fact as an attack of women? I am usually in step with you on most things, but I believe you are way off on the intent of Rep. Akin's comments, whether you agree with them or not.
First of all Kevin, Akins claimed that women can somehow perform some sort of biological hormonal self-defense to prevent conception when it comes to a sexual attack. Ridiculous! Secondly he went on to say the above would happen if in fact the rape was a "legitimate" rape.
Akin along with Rep. Paul Ryan have introduced legislation, in fact, a constitutional amendment that would ban all abortions except those that were caused by violent rape. That's clearly what he meant by legitimate rape since it was the legislation he himself has already introduced, and what he was being questioned about.
So what isn't violent rape? When a kid drugs a girl a date rapes her? Then she should be forced by a Republican government to have the child despite the fact that the Supreme Court has already ruled in Roe v. Wade that she is entitled to abort the child of her rapist if she can't handle it?
I realize you feel a certain way about your religious views but this is a democracy and we believe in freedom and liberty. If you want to live in a theocracy where you can force women and others to follow your religious belief system then move to the Middle East. You'd love it there. The government forces women to wear berka's and everything!
Sedwinmars, My old buddy. Are you spouting BS again? I think so. I would like you to back your claim ( with facts and references) as to where Akin and Paul Ryan introduced legislation that would ban all abortions except those that were caused by violent rape. Have you been smoking reefer with the Prez again?
If you are referring to HR 4971 brought up on 4/27/2012. You once again have been mis-informed. This bill that, as you stated, would be a constitutional amendment, would prohibit government money from being spent on abortions. I know this his hard for you libs to understand, but saying you won't pay for something, is not denying them the right to do it themselves. It is a LIE to say that Akin( the nut) and Paul Ryan were trying to force people into having children. They just don't think that tax dollars should pay for a chosen abortion.
I can understand why you libs cling to one right wing nut, because you can't defend President Obama on his record, you got nothing else.
As usual you're wrong again.
Currently, federal money may be used in cases of incest, rape or if the mother’s life is in danger. The “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortions Act” was co-sponsored by more than 200 Republicans, including Mitt Romney’s running mate, Rep. Paul D. Ryan. It would have changed the word “rape” to “forcible rape,” which abortion rights supporters feared would rule out paying for abortions in cases of statutory rape or when a victim is drugged or verbally coerced.
I can totally defend the President on his record it is you my friend who refuse to acknowledge any facts regarding your Republican's in Congress who have refused to vote for any jobs legislation, who got us a credit downgrade with their debt ceiling fiasco who have fired 650,000 federal employees when we are in desperate need of jobs and who instead keep trying to take away the hard won rights of women and children while denying rights to minorities and the LGBT community.
Facts are facts but you prefer to believe and listen to propaganda and lies presented by your buddies at Fox. I am not alone here. EVERYONE, including most Republicans, have stated these facts about Akin, Ryan and the Republicans and only the most vicious, hard right nutjobs are even trying to defend him with ridiculous rationalizations.
Chris, when you referred to Akin as a Cro-Magnom you insulted the Cro-Magnom. He is a total Neanderthal!! Pea sized brain. And we wonder why we can't get any thing done in Congress! God help us all.
Why was the FBI involved in the congressman's naked swim? The only real reason could be he EXPOSED HIMSELF to children!
Why was the FBI involved in the congressman's naked dip? The only reason it could be, is that he EXPOSED himself to children!~ and they have no enforcement overseas.
Wives and daughters of other congressmen were present at the retreat (at a minimum)!
well that's it then... He exposed himself to little kids... what a drunken sicko
Not to mention this was done in a foreign country and in fact an area of the world where nudity is not acceptable.
Take us here in the U.S. We are definitely prudes by the standards of many nations but many here would consider this kind of behavior especially by governmental representatives totally unacceptable. In fact, people get arrested for nudity here all the time.
However, nudity in the middle east is really unacceptable. Even kissing or holding hands in many parts of the middle east can get one thrown in jail.
In such a sensitive area of the world this shows unbelievable poor judgement. What would have happened if these representatives were arrested? A full blown international incident that's what.
Of course stripping in front of children, and female at that, shows horrible decision making abilities by these Congressmen.
Fact: Congressman Yoder's mistake was picking a spot to go skinny-dipping that is illegal under Israeli law. Alternatively, he should have gone to Tel-Baruch beach north of Tel-Aviv, which has a long history of topless and nude sunbathing. Then instead of being in hot water, he'd have been in refreshing nudist waters.
Cong. Akin has turned into a major problem for Romney-Ryan. Ryan was co-sponsor with this guy for anti- women legislation. The Romney campaign is trying to give Ryan cover and they may be able to do so until the election. But imagine for a moment if the Romney-Ryan ticket wins and there are "knuckle- dragger" Republican majorities in both houses of Congress. Then somehow Romney is not in the picture and Ryan is President!!! That is a nightmare for women, the middle class, seniors, and the poor. Romney-Ryan (Ryan-Romney??) must be defeated.
"They don’t believe that good girls get raped at all. Only in their view shameless hussies who have somehow asked for it get raped. And again that view has now filtered into the Mainstream of the republican party...Unless she is beaten within an inch of her life or has a gun pointed at her head, it’s not really rape. That’s what the thinking here is. Again they believe that a woman who yells rape was doing something she has no business doing… They believe only women who were somehow putting themselves in harms way, shameless hussies, are out there charging rape. That’s the view that is implicit in Todd Aiken’s comments."
That was Cynthia Tucker on Hardball tonight.
I disagree with Todd Aiken's view on abortion in rape cases completely, but Cynthia is completely distorting his position for pure politics. He didn't say or imply anything like she said. She's worse that the distorters on Fox news. Shame on you Cynthia.
With everyone focusing on the person-hood amendment's effect on abortion and IUDs some important medical concerns are lost. If this amendment is ever made law, every miscarriage will become a murder investigation. Families in their grief will have to prove that they did nothing to cause the "murder" of the fetus.
There is also the problem of what to do with ectopic pregnancies. The current treatment is to remove or destroy the developing embryo with drugs. That certainly would be premeditated murder by the doctor and the woman. If nothing is done the fallopian tube eventually ruptures putting the woman's life at risk.
And what would happen to women who continue to smoke or drink during their pregnancy. Would they be jailed for child endangerment or attempted murder?
The anti-abortion people are so focused on their goal of eliminating abortions that they don't think things through or care about any collateral damage they cause.
pam
Repubs will lose young and middle age women's votes, they already have lost non-white and gay votes, they will be hoping their voter rights discrimination policies stop non-repubs from voting and every white man in the country will vote for them, and that a bunch of ballot machines malfunction and the ballots get burned in a car accident getting them to the records center, oh and Roberts and Kennedy will vote like the 5 repub supremes voted against Gore when they claim Obama's win is like Bush's in 2000.
Todd Aiken obviously belongs to that class of CroMagnons (apologies to the peoples of the Paleolithic times) that would beat a woman and defend themselves by saying, "I didn't beat her, I only hit her with my open hand," or "I really didn't punch her...that hard."
flip-floppers are a trip ---
Romney: let's see ... i have only sons and my wife never leaves her home (horses) ... so ... it (rape) will NEVER happen to ME! SURE! EYE can be "anti-abortion" in order to please the right. i can always claim the opposite later when speaking to the left in order to win an election.
Ryan: let's see. i live in a mansion in an exclusive neighborhood, quite a distance from that nasty democratic milwaukee .... so ... it (rape) will NEVER happen to ME! SURE! EYE can be "anti-abortion" in order to please the right (and keep my seat in congress.) i can always claim the opposite later when speaking to the left in order to become vice-president.
yep --- flip-floppers are a trip. especially the republican variety. lolol
There was in interesting exchange yesterday between Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Tony Perkins, president of the the far-right Family Research Council, who warned the senator to "be careful" after Brown called for Akin to resign. Of course, this was a gift to Brown in Massachusetts, where the Republican senator is struggling to fight off a strong challenge from Elizabeth Warren. Although one might think "Hmm, trouble in paradise," this "warning" needs to be seen through the correct lens. Making Brown an enemy of the Family Research Council serves the senator well in Massachusetts, and Perkins, of course, knew it would. Perkins certainly does not want the pro-choice Democrat Warren to oust Brown, and he knows that the more distance Massachusetts voters see between the radical right and Brown the better his chances for re-election. As usual, the truth is in the motive rather than in the act.
No doubt. We have to remember Scott Brown has voted for the Blunt amendment and against equal pay for women. He is a consummate politician in that he knows people pay attention to election campaigns but not to how Congressmen/Senators vote once actually elected.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Some red states have begun criminally prosecuting women for stillbirths and miscarriages and 38 states have introduced foetal homicide laws:
Utah 2004 - Arrested a woman after giving birth to twins, one stillborn, on the grounds she opted for carrying full term over a C-section earlier in her pregnancy. She was charged with murder.
Mississippi 2006 - Rennie Gibbs charged with "depraved heart murder" after miscarrying at 36 weeks when prosecutors discovered she had a cocaine habit. She faces a life sentence.
Indiana 2011 - Bei Bei Shuai awaiting trial for murder of her unborn baby. She attempted suicide out of depression after her boyfriend abandoned her at 33 weeks pregnant - the unborn baby died 4 days after the attempt. She sits in jail without bail.
Alabama - Amanda Kimbrough - Arrested, tried, convicted and awaiting appeal on a 10-year sentence. Her foetus was diagnosed with Down's syndrome and, against doctor recommendation she terminate, decided to have the baby. The baby died 19 minutes after premature C-section delivery.
South Carolina - 300 women have been arrested for alleged actions towards their unborn babies during pregnancy.
N. Dakota - Martina Greywind arrested and charged with "reckless endangerment" on alleged claims she inhaled paint fumes while 12 weeks pregnant.
The list goes on and on. Add to this the "No Abortions - No Exceptions" efforts of Akin and Ryan, the Ryan efforts to grant "Personhood" rights on the unborn from the moment of conception and full protection under the 14th Amendment (thereby nullifying the mother's Personhood and 14th Amendment rights), and the efforts to overturn Griswold v Connecticut (1965) which removes women's rights to contraception and you can begin to see just how big this Republican War on Women really is.
They are actively trying to reduce us to nothing more than incubators criminally culpable for anything that may go wrong during the 9-month gestation.
to whom it may concern regarding "the war on women":
as the webmaster of www.ladiessavetheday.com, i am hearing everyone talking about "the war on women" and i ask myself what women could be complaining about. are they mad at God for designing females to lay an egg if a man hasn't had his way with them sexually? are they mad at God for designing femininity to be used as a tool by men? are they mad that their milk jugs are a tool to be used by babies?
are they complaining about being regarded as and known as members of the lesser gender? i would assume so, with all of this "a woman can do anything a man can do" nonsense. they obviously cannot accept that they are of the lesser gender, being that "Strongwoman" is the new buzz-word (while men have been reduced to being known as "guys," even as the Strongwoman isn't half as strong as a man who can pick her up and throw her before he pulls a george huguely and kills her without help from a weapon other than his own masculine ability).
the truth is that Strongwoman doesn't have a body built for strength, she doesn't have testosterone to give her strength. case-in-point: for a sense of gender-equality, she relies on gender-based sports teams and gender-based military requirements because she can only triumph alongside of men (and never over men). she is meant to be picked on because the Strongwoman is largely disabled.
a woman is as defined by her womb as the word "woman" is a product of "womb" and "man". case-in-point: Strongwoman bleeds for a man. case-in-point: while laying an egg from her womb every month, Strongwoman bleeds actual blood because a man hasn't fertilized the egg. despite the tell-tale vagina, though, Strongwoman bleeds to be manly mostly every day of the month. when she's laying an egg, she just accepts it and she doesn't take any hints about gender-roles - rather, she sticks to her reality-defying mantra: "a woman can do anything a man can do".
as all wombn bleed for men, all wombn are of the lesser gender. i cannot understand why society embraces physical competitions being based on gender (olympic swimming, scholastic basketball) while they buy into the "anything a man can do" mantra. maybe i can understand basketball being gender-based, as men are members of the taller gender, but i wonder why society separates the men from the girls in every other sporting event/physical competition.
if gender-based physical competitions and the size of the barbells at "curves fitness" aren't a constant reminder of the reality of gender-inequality, if neither the presence of females' milk-jugs or the reality of females laying an egg every month isn't a constant reminder of gender-roles, then i'm sure that wombn are blind and therefore i have no problem with "handicapped parking" doubling as "parking for pregnant women".
u2 said "love is blindness," but i maintain that "womanhood is blindness".
must i bring up how the "coney island hot dog eating competition" just added a "women' division" - they can't even eat like a man.

is it a "war on women" or is she a "moron woman"
What in heaven's name are you writing about, Dylan? Why are casting a wide net by using terms which darken any light you might wish to share here? You are being vulgar and provoking.
Of course, women can't do everything that a man can do-NO MORE THAN A MAN CAN DO EVERYTHING A WOMAN CAN DO! Consequently, context is important to understanding the expression, 'women can do what anything a man does'.
Your comment is crass, ill-timed, and ill-conceived.
Wow. This guy is going to spend a lot of time by himself as a member of the he-mans women haters club. We used to guys like this male chauvinist pigs. Just another right winger with an IQ somewhere around 40 or 50. I hope for his sake someone invents a cheap sex-bot soon.
