Let me finish tonight with the crazy story in Missouri.
The candidate in question, Todd Akin, raised his concern that women who charge rape may not have a "legitimate" case.
Well, that is Mr. Akin's case and the story continues. Why a candidate for major national office would make a case like this tells you much of what you need to know about the thinking behind it.
Why would a person belittle or try to undermine the testimony of a woman charging rape? Why would they do such a thing? Why?
A couple possibilities arise. One is that this person, Todd Akin, doesn't want to allow an exception for having an abortion. To avoid allowing that exception, he argues that women who are raped cannot get pregnant.
Another possibility here, and I think my women colleagues felt this on hearing that word he used, that he simply doesn't take the word of women on this most violent question. The second he voiced that word "legitimate," he was calling into question the basic veracity of women on the stand in a courtroom.
Why would he do such a thing?
That is the question he needs to answer and the voters of Missouri are going to keep asking it as long as he stands out there as a candidate.

Why? One has only to look at the right wing extreme theocrats around the world who stone to death or burn alive victims of rape while letting the perpetrators off scott free.
The Republicans are right wing extremists and theocrats who have a political split personality when it comes to economics where they have slid into the corporate/fascist belief system.
Chris and Hardball team look at this one
Bryan Fischer Says Todd Akin's Comments About 'Legitimate Rape' Were 'Absolutely Right' (VIDEO)
Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association, a conservative Christian group, said that Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) was "absolutely right" to claim that women cannot become pregnant from "legitimate rape."
The host of the talk radio show Focal Point said that the trauma from a “real, genuine rape, a case of forcible rape” would make it "difficult" for a woman to conceive a child, Right Wing Watch notes.

The whole of the Republican party believes this too. They have just written their national platform and they have included the personhood doctrine in that platform despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of citizens in this nation are against it. Despite the fact that even the majority of citizens in the most conservative red states in the union have already rejected it when they have tried to pass it in those states, they are still committed to forcing it down our throats.
If anyone believes for a second that a misogyny administration, excuse me I mean a Mitt Romney administration wouldn't sign it into law you're deceiving yourselves just like those that watch Fox and believe it is real "news."
I think Obama's "If you have a business, you didn't build that" & Biden's "They'll put you all in chains" comments are far worst than what this man said. He misspoke, he's sorry, so now let's move on to talking about JOBS & ECONOMY because I yet to hear what Barack Obama would do differently if reelected. Americans are suffering, constantly being harassed, chased down by debt collectors day & night. President Obama we need solutions not distractions.
Ignorance attracts ignorance which is exactly why you have no problem with the complete attack on women's rights and refusal by the Republican party to acknowledge the will of the majority of American people and the ruling of the Supreme Court with regard to Roe v. Wade.
As far as jobs and the economy go you should call up your Republican congressmen and ask them to start voting for jobs legislation since they are the ones who have refused to vote for every single piece of jobs legislation since the President was elected.
Paul Ryan and the Republicans are the ones who inherited a surplus under Clinton and spent their way into a deficit, destroyed millions of jobs with their wars and tax cuts and have absolutely refused to go back to the responsible tax policies of Clinton like they promised and Obama has tried to do and have refused to pass any of the several jobs bills proposed by Obama and the Democrats despite their promises to the American public and their Republican base and YET you Cindy continue to whine and blame Obama because you are either blind or racist. What other explanation do you have?
Refusal to acknowledge facts isn't going to fix the Republican's failure to lead and their failure to fix our economy or jobs situation. What makes you think they will do anything different if Mitt is elected? Only getting all the Republicans out of both houses and the Presidency will solve our problems. Facts are facts.
What's amazing is the false equivalency in your argument. Obama wasn't talking about business but roads and bridges. Biden was referring to the Republican argument of the "shackling of business" and neither had introduced legislation such as the Republicans will put all people back into chains. That's ridiculous.
But Akin had in fact introduced a constitutional amendment that all Republicans voted in favor of backing exactly what he said namely that all abortions should be banned except those resulting from violent rapes. So he didn't misspeak at all. He said exactly what he believes and all the Republicans believe and have in fact voted for.
The absurdity of your arguments and the lengths you go to to justify your preposterous views is shameful.
Cindy, is a big joke. I laugh at her, actually. She goes after Obama and Biden-even takes the time to post their words-while summarizing the Akin remarks with spin. It would have been fair for Cindy to give all three men a pass, but not HER!!!
Cindy on these blogs I have a visceral reaction to very few people, but you are one of them! Your name, "Cindy" is indicative of a female, yet you do not stand up for women causes- you do not protect women's interest on the boards. You dismiss every reference, I, a man, have made in support of women. Because I am going from the heart on these woman's issue you offend me (Koala spits!)
You remind me of Kay Bailey Hutchinson on television yesterday (I turned down the volume because I heard it before.) A woman, any woman, black-white-straight-gay, can like anybody's politics they want to like AND STILL DEFEND THE SKIN THEY ARE IN. STAND UP FOR YOUR SKIN first so we can know you have conviction, then support your your politics. That way, there is no confusion surrounding you.
Obama's and Biden's statements don't come close to Akin's. Akin did not "misspeak". He articulated his belief that the female reproductive system can somehow prevent conception when a woman is "legitimately" raped. His statement was incredibly appalling on several levels. It is biologically false - hard to believe someone could believe such nonsense. It alludes to the notion that there are different categories of rape and only some are legitimate. It also suggests that there's no need to allow abortions in the case of rape since women who are "legitimately" raped can't get pregnant. I think the economy and the ever-mounting national debt are a huge concern and should by the primary focus of the election. However, this is not a distraction. Akin's mentality is shocking and scary. The only thing he's sorry about is that it might cost him the Senate seat.
