The first of three presidential debates took place last night at the University of Denver, and two impersonators who looked very much like President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney engaged in a substantive, zinger-free discussion about domestic policy. Surely, it was not the candidates themselves, because the real Mitt Romney has a tax plan that would give the top .1% an average tax cut of more than $246,000, as pointed out by the non-partisan Tax Policy Center and cited by our friends at First Read. The guy playing Romney last night, however, declared that he would not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans. The real Mitt Romney has what Factcheck.org calls an "impossible plan," whereby he would cut $5 trillion in federal taxes over a decade and somehow offset that massive cut with equally massive reductions, a plan which the Tax Policy Center concluded was mathematically impossible. The guy playing Romney last night kept insisting that he does not have a tax cut of that scale. The real Mitt Romney would only guarantee insurance for people with pre-existing conditions if they have maintained coverage with no significant lapses, a plan that excludes millions with life-threatening illnesses. The guy playing Mitt Romney last night asserted that "pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan."
And the real Barack Obama would never have allowed these types of whoppers to go unchallenged! The Obama up there last night was very different from the Obama we saw triumph in the 2008 general-election debates against John McCain. He lacked energy, he kept looking down, he was not concise. And people definitely noticed, as the instant-reaction polls reflected. There were virtually no attacks on his challenger, no mention of the recent 47% comments that have haunted the Romney campaign for the past couple weeks. So the big question on everyone's mind is: what happened to the President?
Not all is lost for Team Obama, however. He can still challenge the exaggerated claims made by his opponent in the immediate aftermath and in the next two debates. But the President's performance does put more pressure on his No. 2, Vice President Joe Biden, who faces off against VP candidate Paul Ryan on October 11.
No one knows how the next three debates will go or how the candidates' strategies will change, but one thing is for certain: we have ourselves a race.

Maybe Mr President Obama can launch a drone attack against Mr. Romney? Or at least have him arrested?
If this was a threat against Mr. Obama you would probably be in trouble? Esp with Chris Mathews! All the lies that have been propagated against Mitt Romney" came home to roost" last night in MR> Obama's face!! Obama looked like the book"Amateur" described him!
AN"Assholists".Just a STARTED debate make you Guys feels good to PRACTICE thy"ASSHOLISM,"say BIG hello to your little"ROBOTIC"Mitt.@
Animal: YOU exemplfy the type of crustations and bottom feeders that support Ole Barry.... as well as show just how stupid your band of fruitcakes are.... YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID!
I would like to share one of the eye opening experiences in my life. It was participation in simultaneous chess that grandmaster Korchnoi gave at chemical department in University just before his defection.
I am above average amateur player wanted to have at least a draw and decided to build a castle. After about fifteen moves castle was in place but I astonishingly figured out that it was too tight and any my move would lead to immediate crashing defeat. I surrendered. Korchnoi nodded and slightly smiled giving me due that I understood my situation.
When grandmaster plays amateur the point of defeat appears apparent instantly and decisive. Like now after Romney was given first time an opportunity to demonstrate completely unmatched level of personality over Obama.
I think we ought to fact check Leo on this one. I only know how the pieces move in chess (I'll fact check anyone on another "mind game," however), and that "build a castle" has a familiar smell to it...
Someone want to chime it?
Mitt Romney put his basic sociopath's mask on last night, and a lot of us noticed how "manicky" he appeared....
OK. You get me. Not castle - the word is fortress.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortress_%28chess%29
Chris, I thought you were going to cry last night. So now we know how both The President and Mitt preform when there is no liberal media filter to protect the President from himself.
It is also funny how many losers are now yelling "fact check". You must have went to bed right after the debate instead of watching the fact check. Now all you have left is to hope the liberal media can put some sort of spin on what the fact checkers had to say.
The one thing I hate is that President Obama gave some gas to conSerVatives. Frankly, it just makes the day go by longer. One conservative is already working off a gaffe their tush could not hold. :-)
THE FACTS WERE THERE LAST NIGHT..... and that will ALWAYS, be the down fall of Obummer. THIS WAS NOT a STERILE 30 second sound bite orchestrated in front of mindless admiring Obummer supporters or the same,in front of a largecrowd, rather, it was a RARE TIME where Obama was confronted with facts and held accountable for 4 YEARS of FAILURE! Additionally,to Chrissy Matthews, "this was not n MSNBC debate" ...THAT IS CORRECT! MSNBC WAS NOT THERE to spoon feed Obummer soft questions and coddle him! THIS WAS THE FIRST time on TV, Obummer was CALLED TO TASK, and held accountable ....there is NO DEFENSE for failure... and so. Obummer is left to stand there, smile and shake his head in agreement.... Obumer KNOWS he has filed miserably, for the past 4 years!
Chris M., by his comment meant that Mitt Romney would not have steamrolled the moderator, the host, the room, the President, or the audience--pulling "A Gingrich"!
Think what you want. You make me *yawn*. "Nightie night, Eric (rolls over pulls up the sheet...done with this one.)"
Keep in mind - the Hedgehog pawn formation in chess is rather boring, takes a while to set up, and appears to be "tight". First debate is not the game - but only opening. Second debate is the middle game.
Apparently, a set of favorable debates is only good for about 1 poll percentage point. (At least on the Rasmussen Daily). Only one point surprises me too - but take it up with Scott Rasmussen.
Ha Ha Ha! Oh Eric calm down and do your homework.
Everyone in America other than you right wing children who want to be lied to was insulted by Mitts lies and flip flops.
On the other hand they admire the fact that the POTUS is an adult willing to solve adult problems.
It's time to throw the children, the Republicans, out of Congress, replace them with the adult Democrats and re-elect the President.
We need to solve our problems not put them off or make them worse again like Mitt and Ryan want to do.
Vote straight Democrat 2012.
Would have to agree with Leo that last night was an eye opener or as James Carville noted "a splash of water in the face". Ok game on, this one is poker and not chess.
Unfortunately Romney showed all of his cards last night. If you do not think that the powers that be in the Obama campaign will be going over Romney's various policy positions and that Obama will not hammer him right back next time..... Romney looked more like a zealous missionary last night, banging on doors with his message of conversion fixed with a certitude of economic wealth for all.
I don't think anything is lost for Team Obama. I am working for them this time just like I did before. The more I worked, the more impressive people I met, the no nonsense organization and strategy impressed me. I thought he was Obambi, good thing I am not Osama Bin Ladin. Never underestimate the top of the class at Harvard, never.
We have proof that Obama can take the heat. I am not so sure if you get Romney off his game like Ted Kennedy did in MA, that the guy is not going to just wimp out.
Carol. I hope so. I did not know who would "win" the debate last night. Nonetheless, I did not "get" what I expected. No kidding.
This smacks of 2004 Bush-Kerry debates...unless the next debate is weak. What the hell happened? My president can not let these debates negatively define him!
Carol,
I hope so. Don't get tired of me saying this over, and over! We cannot come across arrogant (Obama)! There is a way to govern, which we both agree, but it is another way to campaign, debate, in male world, to fight!
I am sorry, Obama came across as a "pussy!" Yes, this is crasp, but perception now is key, substance 2nd, or anyway this is the way I see it!
Your posts are always great!
CAROL: ...speaking of "off balance and whimpering out"... Obummer defined that statement to a tee, last night!
Calbab and Ricky the next debate is going to be on foreign policy, something that Romney has no experience. One fact, all Americans are war weary. The military is struggling from being overworked due to constant deployments. Then there is Romney wanting to to beef up the military. I hope Obama asks why because unless you have a war, making the military stronger and having more soldiers makes no financial sense. So what war, Mr. Romney would you start first? If all is fair in love and war, then Commander in Chief Obama can pay back in kind civilian and draft dodger Willard. I would show up and cut Romney off at the knees because of his lack of experience in the international realm of diplomacy.
Chris made a great point tonight by having on James Lipton from Inside the Actors' Studio. Last night Romney reminded me of being in Corporate America, the boss comes in and interrupts whatever is being said because A1he can and A2, what would you know even if you did the work yourself. It is quite insulting and like a military dressing down with no way to defend yourself. You just have to take it and plan your takeover by climbing the ladder yourself.
I have an issue with the moderator who allowed himself to be eliminated and in doing so, gave Obama very few options. The big question is, democracy at work or the ultimate all the power is at the top and will stay there? Who won the debate last night? What debate? That is what a hostile takeover looks like from the inside and it is not pretty.
Romney had 25 years in Bane. I do not doubt for one minute he has expertise in firing people and economically "right sizing" a company, forgetting about the people who are expendable. When they don't fit into the business plan, like Big Bird you are made redundant.
So is this the way we want to be treated and the prism to view our nation as a whole? To add insult to injury, then Romney will turn around to his rich friends and say after he took your job away and your insurance, you are a lazy drag on society and to make his point clearer, he will eliminate all of your "entitlements". It is a God like stance we allow out of this man.
I think we have finally seen the real Romney who is going to have his "plan" and it will be a decree to the nation according to the man who thinks Corporations are People. We have a choice, to be in it and represented or to just follow orders from headquarters.
My daughter called to say that she was totally confused. She knew Romney was lying about things and backtracking on what he has said before. So there is a possibility that the fringe, like my daughter, who most likely get most of their information from TV ads.. something has sunk in. It is always better to tell the truth because you have to have a great memory to always get your lies right... as Romney says, he always sticks to the story line, veracity by his saying so.
Great read. Crystal clear, Carol.
Our president must express himself clearly going forward. He has the "chops", next time be prepared to not let formalities control his mood.
Romney has a team of war-mongers like former Iraq Ambassador Dan Senor on his team (see photos of Ryan/Senor & Romney/Senor) and that villainous John Bolton, both by now looking for cabinet level positions. They only know conflict and rage, and certainly are not a team for "dove-lovers".
I am so happy your daughter saw through the vicious Romney attack, which posed as a purposeful debate. I am starting to feel better now about it all. Thank you, you helped me through it today, Carol.
Anmal, I think you might be in trouble if you had expresssed the same thought about Mr. Obama that yu did Mitt! With Chris Mathews anyway! Maybe Chris missed the "thrill down his leg" lat night? Gov. Romney showed how "class" and intelligence can be used in an honest discussion without lying about things !! When you tell the truth, you dont have to stutter and hurry on to the next question! Mr. Obama found himself "NOT IN CONTROL" last night! He couldnt tell the moderator what to do!
DEFICIT NEUTRAL TAX CUTS? Must be smoke and mirrors. When the President called him on the math, Romney, pretty much just said, "Uh uh." Romney claims his son's follow the lead, if you tell a lie often enough people will start to believe it. Or is it - like father like son.
You must have missed that point. For someone that loves the idea of taking from the rich to give to the poor this should have made sense to you.
Big business and small business can legally use the same loop holes, however, most small businesses don't have enough working capital to be able to take advantage of the loop holes, thus they pay a higher effective net tax as compared to the percentage payed by big business.
by lowering the overall tax rate it will help those with small business by increasing revenues that stay in their pockets, and the other half of his plan to close loop holes will keep those larger companies at their current rate without effecting the smaller businesses.
The third part of his plan is to stimulate job growth, by leaving more money in the pockets of small business. The higher new employees that in turn pay more taxes.
This model has worked. Under 3 separate Republican Presidents in my life time taxes have been reduce. In all three cases revenues to the government increase. Liberal media loves to point out that in each of these three cases that I refer to the deficit increased ( which they are right, the deficit did increase) however, they always fail to give you the whole truth. The tax cut was put into place, revenues increased to the government, then the big kicker the government increased spending and a greater rate than the revenues increase causing a deficit. In all three historical cases (which President Obama referred to ) the real problem was government spending not a reduction in revenue like President Obama claimed last night.
Which brings me to my last point eighter President Obama Understands this concept and is mis-leading you to forward his ajenda or he just doesn't understand the facts that are in front of him.
Deficit Nuetral Tax Cuts, pretty funny, pretty effective!
Isn't that exactly what Bush said?
Then our balanced budget and surplus...vanished!
Obama missed an opportunity right off the bat when talking about his anniversary. (telling that lame self-serving joke about spending it with 40 million people)
It would have been so easy to transition from the anniversary to the American Dream. To look at Michelle and say that 20 years ago they could have never dreamed that this is where they'd be today. That Only in America could his story be possible - (a skinny kid with a funny name)
But that 4 years ago the American Dream was under attack. (with some passion)
Two wars. Bin Laden at large.
An economy losing 800,000 a month. Record job losses.
Collapsing housing market
and the American auto industry near death.
Explain that you made tough choices because that's what a President does - decides to save the auto industry, to invest in America, to get the economy back on track - and it worked. He forgot to say what he did to get out of that mess in the opening.
Explain how as President you are helping to restore the American dream by creating 5 million jobs, investing in education, making college more affordable and protecting Medicare and Social Security for Seniors who earned it - the 47%. We're not all the way out of this mess, but we're on the right track and now the voters have a very clear choice.
Then say in simple terms that Romney wants to go backwards. Return to the Bush policies. Say Bush's name. We can't afford to go back.
Instead, Romney's joke about the Obamas anniversary was funnier and more endearing than the President's. A little passion would be nice.
That's the second time I have heard the "passion" opening and I don't like it. It is way too personal. I mean, that's something you could say off-stage, in the car, post-event. A million different instances to say I love you....
I said he should show passion when talking about how the American Dream was under attack four years ago. He should have displayed some passion about the issues. That's not too personal. Did you think I said Obama should show some passion about his anniversary with his wife?
The tingle is gone
The tingle is gone
The tingle is gone away
The tingle is gone Mr. hope and change
The tingle is gone away
You know you done me wrong and it feels strange
And you'll be sorry someday
The tingle is gone
It's gone away from me
The tingle is gone Barak
The tingle is gone away from my leg
Although I'll still live on
I’ll be so lonely I’ll have to beg
The tingle is gone
It's gone away for good
Oh, the tingle is gone Barak
Its gone away for good and I’m in shock
I know I'll never get over it all baby
If I were a real man I know I should
You know I'm free, free now Barry
I'm free from your spell of hope and change
I'm free, free now
It was a mirage all along
And now that it's over
All I can do is wish you well
Now come in from the playground, the street lights are on.
It's time for you to take your bath, eat your dinner, and go to bed.
It was a good win for Romney last night - he did look better
still, not enough to win Nov 6
I did learn one thing - Romney's 20% tax rate reduction is going to cost 5 trillion dollars in revenue - and he has no way of paying for it - I could repeat this a number of times, to which Romney would then compare me to one of his lying sons and say it isn't so.
Also, I learned that Romney "Read my Lips" had his own bush snr moment when he said "you know that 20% tax reduction I promised you .... well I have just figured that if it raises the deficit, I can't give it to ya! - so really, my no-plan plan is just that - NO-PLAN" !
Marginalized: what you did wittness, but, are too stupid and blind to see, was Romney put the plans out there, did a good job at articulating them and repeatedly disspelled ALL of Obama's lies, that you suck up like Jello. THE NO PLAN award goes to Obummer... he has NEVER has a viable plan, he has failed miserably..last night, to you mindless one's dismay it really showed... and IT SHOWED, Obummer CANNOT DEFEND FAILURE..NO ONE CAN! So, Obummer is finally shown to be the weak, inept, community organizer that he is....NOTHING MORE! ...and MSNBC,CNN,NBC were NOT there to coddle this sad excuse of a person, nor were they there to spoon feed soft questions to Obummer... Obummer was left to FACE THE FACTS and REALITY... something he has always dodged and never been forced to face!
“STYLE” over “SUBSTANCE”
President Obama, I wish that you had challenged Romney on some of his “LIES”. Taking the high road and remaining “LIKABLE” is honorable, but misguided. The Democrats always confuse nice and passive. The American People hate a bully, but they respect courage. Believe it or not we know the difference. It seems to me that you were holding back, I could see your frustration and your calculations. “Remember to take the high road, I can’t affect my likability”. You still have to be a CHAMPION; we still have to believe you’re strong. So yes I am disappointed, but I have not changed my mind.
As disappointed as I was in the President’s debate, I was more disappointed in my favorite cable news station MSNBC. You seem to have been distracted by the shallow. You seem to forget your responsibility to your viewers, who I am guessing are LIBERAL. You hardly spent anytime, analyzing what was said only how it was said. We count on the Press to educate us, to do the research. It gives us pause when you seem to go all “Entertainment Tonight” on us. I am going to take a guess that your audience has a higher number of college grads then Fox Noise and to us “SUBSTANCE” is important. I am going to give Andrea Mitchell a “B+” for her interview with John Sunumu. She did what the Press should be doing, challenging! So as your news coverage continues and you sit there gleefully in you anchor chairs, know this, your viewers are just as disappointed in you. Where is your credibility? You seem to have contempt for us, thinking that we too can be distracted by shinny things like you are.
Mitt Romney said NOTHING last night of any “SUBSTANCE”, his ARITHMETIC didn’t add up, he contradicted himself and flip flopped. Issues that are important to suburban home owners (Mortgage Interest Rate Deduction), Women Health Issue, Immigration, Tax Fairness, and Declining Salaries did not come up or they were given with no detail. Mitt Romney didn’t just have to get up there and smile, not this year. We need to know what this man is going to do to us….and with his HUGE flip flops last night, on Obamacare, Pre-existing conditions, the deficit, and tax reform…he only made me trust him less. TRUST HIM? NOT ON YOUR LIFE…
In conclusion, a question for the Press, what do you think matters more the Lihn Family “STYLE or SUBSTANCE”? You remember them don’t you? Stacy Lihn told us how the repeal of Obamacare would affect her and her family and her child. There are REAL life and death issues affecting us today, be responsible, do your jobs honorably.
MSNBC evening anchors have vested time, energy, and reputation in President Obama. Those sit-downs are post-debate first impression events. My president knows that every evening commentary has panel-shows that will "host" him immediately following a Debate.
Chris Matthews has street cred, and I believe he shares his energy with those politicos he trusts and believes. Mr. President that was a questionable performance. So we ask...questions today, while today is today.
Tomorrow back to work...
VOTE! A Full Democrat Ticket 2012. Change goes viral!
When candidates do not do well in debates, it throws the psychology of the base voters' off, unfortunately. On either sides. It seta a stage for voter apathy all over again. People don't understand. So they don't vote for the other side; they just don't vote at all.
Team Obama get it together! GOBAMA!
Yahoo Tom
Absolutely Outstanding nothing else, no other comments you spoke for all of Chris's Viewers
Thank You!
BTW. I forgot to give Yahoo Thom his "public" due (rough night). However, that one vote his post has...its mine! I gave it.
Give him a vote, y'all. If you like it. BTW, Chris Matthews is back at work. He is one of "the hardest working man in politics".
Thanks for your comments Thom. Like you, I was (and still am) disappointed over the reaction that Ed and Chris as well as other commentators had regarding the debate. I think that Romney played right into the President's hand because today (Thursday) the media is having a field day playing all of the lies that were spewed by Romney. I am disappointed that the reaction of the MSNBC commentators as well as other liberals was so angry toward the President. After all that has been going on the past few months with Romney committing mistake after mistake, gaff after gaff, I would think that the media would give the American public a little credit in being able to see what is really going on. Now, the Obama campaign has even more clips to play which show how the many untruths that Romney has been trying to make us believe. I am with you....SUBSTANCE totally wins over STYLE in this case because one only has to look at the SUBSTANCE of Romney's words to understand that STYLE and intelligence totally won the debate. There are two more debates and I would not be so quick to judge the President and his strategy. Thank you for your intelligent commentary.
Cal,
Great observations, I wish more on blog understood perception is game right now!
Thanks Ricky! I consider you a friend. :-) Keep up your good work!
Romney wins "best performance" for acting & delivery, and his support team wins for "best [fictional] script". However, this event is not the Academy Awards; it is for the Presidency. I hope the American people know the difference and can tell fact from fiction!
Thank you for saying what I have been thinking. I hope the American people are realizing how often Willard changes a lie to suit his audience.
Please America, wake up this man is a fraud.
Obama/Biden 2012.
Chris-I am a fan of yours, but you were truly dreadful last night. Shrill and over the top. We all have an wacky uncle who arrives at T'giving and goes on rants and that's what you sounded like. You need to look objectively at this debate, identify the lies and hammer away at them. Do the hard job of a real journalist .
Chris-I'm a fan of yours, so please take this with that in mind. You were truly terrible last night - shrill, over the top, sounding like that awful uncle that shows up every T'giving and rants. You know Romney's responses were a pack of lies, so go do the hard journalistic work to prove it.
And please, get a grip.
Whenever Mitt Romney speaks, he speaks his native tongue.
Forgot to mention, everyone at MSNBC was pretty awful. You sounded out of control. You need to sound more reasoned and reasonable if you want to avoid being the Fox on the Left. Last night MSNBC sounded like Fox on the left. I hope you can all regroup by tonight.
Those who watched expecting a Romney "gaffe" weren't disappointed... It's just taken a day to figure that out.
The "Save Big Bird" crowd is all ready with their pitchforks and torches.
While trying to win the Republican nomination and secure 100s of millions of dollars from conservative donors, Romney has advocated some specific policies. Last night during the debate, Romney repeatedly back-tracked and distanced himself from his own positions that he has advocated for the past year. This was the Etch-A-Sketch moment foreshadowed by his spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom last spring. Romney takes the risk of being labeled a flip-flopper, but it is a calculated risk. His other alternative is to remain the same guy who made the "47%" speech to Republican donors. He can't do the latter and get elected.
I think President Obama prevailed in the debate. Obama is cool, just like he was in 2008, when he won the election for the Presidency. Pundits raised hell in 2008, saying the President wasn't aggressive enough. Pundits were wrong. Pundits, generally speaking are pirates or gypsies. Perhaps they're Gypsy Pirates, they're also corporate in the case of MSNBC. Gypsy pirates may run under different flags or wear their opponents uniforms or masquerade in political disguise but one thing is for sure. Corporate is corporate. Corporate is primal. Corporate is predictable. American political media has the approval of only 10% of the population and MSNBC's top show has an average of about 1.3 million viewers, out of 311 million Americans. That's about 1/3rd of 1 % of Americans. MSNBC is a tempest in a thimble. Chris Matthews is attempting to fix what he ruined last night.....himself. Matthews is a flim flamming corporate political pundit. He's a corporate Gypsy Pirate of the pro life, conservative Catholic variety, who's trying to grab the national spotlight in true Gypsy Pirate form. Corporate pundits are predictable and Matthews and Schultz pirhouetted off the Democrat ship last night, into the land of corporate political gypsy pirate ghosts, which is their natural habitat. The President seems to have another opponent in the ring, with the acronym MSNBC. Wagner, for instance jumped into her shark suit today and she's feeding voraciously on the President. One great thing about the debate is that MSNBC's Corporate Gypsy Pirate Sharks are in clear view now, for all to see. Yeck! It's a nasty business..................Gobama 2012! Yes we can, Again!
reveal5,
My guy (Obama) was not cool last night, he was timid! And please stop making excuses for him! Govern well (his mannerisms) and instincts are very good.
We are not in this mode right now, the substance mode, we are in the perception mode, and Obama was "piss-poor" last night!
Lets not act like Fox news pundits!
Thank you, Mr. Matthews, for stating in your post-debate analysis what objective people understood about Romney's first debate with Obama:
-- Romney cannot be trusted to lead the American people!
Romney continued to Ignore Questions that would expose his past lies, to state Empty Promises about improving the economy, and to outright Lie some more:
1) He continues to ignore requests for basic details and the math for his economic and tax plans.
2) He flip-flopped on cutting taxes for the most wealthy, and whether the poor and the uninsured should get their health care by going to the emergency room.
3) He lied by saying Obamacare would cut $716 billion in benefits for
current Medicare beneficiaries, and by saying Obamacare was substantively different than the health care reforms Romney enacted in Massachusetts.
4) He lied about the current unemployment rate.
Thanks! Good comment. I'm just wondering why you stopped at 4! :)
I can't tell you how funny it is to see ALL the idiots at msnbc led by spit-mouth Mathews, panic last night! Absolutely hysterical! Hey Chris, where is that tingle now dickhead?! Obama looked like a lost puppy last night. He couldn't respond to anything Romney threw at him, because his record SUCKS!!!!
Some of you have got to stop drinking the Kool-aid...Obama couldn't think straight nor talk straight and without lies....and Matthews...Americans aren't as dumb as you think some of us actually research both sides to find the truth...and Obama's lies will all be exposed oneday as well as your bias media spin...you are suppose to be reporters or commentators and speak the truth not your spin. AS far as ratings Fox beat you all!
And if you Americas like giving your solventry to the UN find vote him in again, he wants to give control to our Internet to the UN, read people find out the truth, his goal is to ruin this country...so eat and drink now if he wins again you won't have the money to have a good time, enjoy while you can....
Tingles was in a panic.
Maddow and O'Donnell couldn't shed their WTF looks.
Rev Al was in denial.
Big Ed had a meltdown.
Chris Hayes was frustrated, and then made to look like a little boy trying to challenge the former NYC mayor.
Sedwinmars - resident Hardball blogger - could only resort to HA HA HA responses and name calling.
Only one candidate showed the Presidential goods yesterday. I will take a prepared, informed businessman with proven experience to focus and execute on the task at hand (JOBS!) versus a pretender any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Next up - Gaffes vs. Paul. You think Joe and the Obama campaign team are nervous? You betcha.
Tex
Yes, the msnbc crews reactions last night were quite entertaining to say the least.
Romney won a very important debate and has definitely given himself a shot, a 2nd chance.
He still however was untruthful and his etcha-sketchiness did not win over any of the left wing. Its too soon to see if he's gained any undecided/independent votes yet.
The comment about his 'lying' sons hurt him, and I found it offensive. "You can say the same things over and over again, it doesn't make it true!" - that answer as sweet as it was, was coated in arrogance, and in itself was a lie!
The fact that Romney could not back up his tax plan, and even went as far as to say "he would not sign into law any tax reduction which increases the deficit" says to me, either he really has no idea about his tax plan, or he will lie and say whatever it takes .....
Ha Ha Ha! Texas T has popped his head out of Limbaughs rabbit hole!
He heard a jobs plan out of Mitt. Really what was it?
Mitt said I'll create jobs! How? Where was his Plan?
Mitt said I'll lower taxes. I'll tell Congress lower taxes by 5 trillion and offset it so it is neutral to the budget. Ha Ha Ha! It's easy to say cut taxes. The hard part is to come up with the cuts but Mitt isn't willing to do the hard part. He's gonna tell the do-nothing Congress that refuses to work together to find 5 trillion dollars in cuts? Ha Ha Ha! That's not leadership that's cowardice! Ha Ha Ha!
Mitt said his alternative Health care plan won't leave kids and those with pre-existing uninsured? He also said his was going to kick people of Obamacare and they would rely on the Emergency Room. So which is it? That's was a blatant lie. That's not leadership.
Texas T-bagger may like to be lied to because he can't face the truth or maybe because he can't stand that the President is a scary black man, but I know Mitt isn't a leader...he's a clown.
Chris
The problem with the Progressive Media is that the slighest thing goes a little wrong you guys act like the "Sky Is Falling"
The President hasn't debated in 4 years and is extremely busy running this country. I understand it was not a good showing on his part, you guys need to "stay the course" on behalf of the American people. Don't treat this like a "Horse Race" there is too much at stake for American families.
The Ultra-Conservative Media always act like they won even if their candidate doesn't make it to the debate. They don't just fall down and start "Crying" regardless. They potray themselves as "Winners At All Costs"
If Romney was in the hospital last night they would still say he was a winner. That's the difference between the two media outlets.
"The Truth Matters" American families lives are at stake!
Stop It! Stop It!
You guys acted as if the people voted last night and the President lost.
Most important is not to Promote a Liar, that's what MSNBC did
We are so dissapointed. So dissapointed.
Martin Bashir handled it well today getting to the truth.
Our Country went to War on a Lie you have told us that over and over again, yet you are pusing a Liar In Chief On American families knowing the disaster it would cause in their lives.
You media people have it made you make Millions, Regular Families don't they don't have that luxury. They need to make or select a President Based on The Truth!
Here's hoping you will reframe from putting America's Future and it's families up for bid in a Horse Race and help American Struggling Families Get the Truth.
Some families don't have jobs, food, a home. Selecting a Credible President with Excellent Character, Truthful, Integrity and honesty and one who fights for them should be the media's Number One Goal not a screeming match about a Horse Race and backing a Liar.
MSNBC isn't liberal or Democratic. MSNBC is corporate. It operates behind "Walls of Obfuscation." Those are words Alex Wagner used to describe where she stands. She's obfuscated. She stands behind walls of obfuscation. I fired her. I also fired "Morning Joe. I fired big Ed back in 2010, and Maddow is just emerging from probation from the 2010 election. I'm a Democrat. MSNBC isn't a Democrat, MSNBC is a corporocrat.
reveal5,
Your arguments are like some type of "Anti-LeoKrut," It's America, get comfortable with corporate, makes you sound ignorant.
By the way, we happand to agree on substance, this is not what I am speaking to now, Okay!
It's Perception!
Found this on yahoo news, interesting after Romney said last night he was for hiring more teachers ... Former New Hampshire Gov. John H. Sununu, a surrogate for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, defended the presumptive Republican nominee's comments that the nation should have fewer teachers, firefighters and police officers, saying there was "wisdom" in Romney's remarks.
Pat your link didn't post. I am definitely interested. The Romney team is lying and looking down its nose at America workers. John Sununu is posing an arrogant loud-mouth (Cheney) subject to pop-off at any moment.
