Debate Night in Kentucky!
Vice President Joe Biden faces off against Paul Ryan in the first and only vice presidential debate tonight at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Can Biden do what his boss didn't? Can he challenge the Romney ticket and blunt Romney's gains over the past week? We'll find out tonight. MSNBC's coverage kicks off at 5pm ET on "Hardball", live from Danville. Then at 6 it's "PoliticsNation" with the Rev. Al Sharpton. At 7 it's another live edition of "Hardball" before Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews and the MSNBC team take over live coverage at 8pm. The debate goes from 9 to 10:30 and we'll have all the reaction and analysis afterwards until 1am.
Our new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polling finds the race getting tighter in Florida and Virginia, but President Obama is still maintaining his lead in the firewall state of Ohio.
And new New York Times/CBS News/Quinnipiac polls show voters in swing states giving Romney higher marks on leadership, but there hasn't been much shift in the head-to-head numbers. The conclusion? President Obama has been buttressed by the 7.8 unemployment number and the race is settling down.

The only thing that is worthy to see in today debate is will be "senior moment" of Biden or not? So actually only second part of event is matter. If there will be "senior moment" of Biden - the race is virtually over.

OK. There were no obvious "senior moment" for Biden. Several weird uncle responses from him nevertheless. He was not polite and respectful as most old school democrats. So only one point bump for Romney/Rayn ticket. Just enough for occasion.

Sed. Something else came out in this debate plainly to me. You can see it when the two men's conversations "bump" together. You can see what the republicans did to President Obama: Romney never deferred to the office of the President. Romney and Ryan, both, spoke breathlessly each attempting to run out of words.
I'll call it "the Sununu effect".
When Ryan is unsuccessfully attempting to steamrolled the office of the vice-president, you can almost see he has been told to push-through Joe Biden.
Its the "You lie" in the State of the Union; the spitting on congressional members, the scheming on inaugural night of the President, the straight "NO!" votes, and an overcoming sense of disrespect for the current occupiers of the Offices.
I am glad Joe Biden 'handed Ryan is ass'. Did I say that? Hell yeah.

I agree. I think the format helped this time around. The fact that they were sitting in close proximity around a table yielded a more civil and controlled event.
I think the next one will also be unique as it will be the town hall format which I believe will play to O's strengths and Mittens weaknesses.

(20% across the board tax cut) - (no detail cuts) - (no detail on deductions eliminated) - ($455 million in cuts from CPB and Big Bird) = -$4.545 billion

If Ryan has his momma with him tonight, just think about this. He lumps her together with all other medicare recipients and I know what retired people are called that are wealthy enough to go to Florida for the winters......they are called "snow birds". If she can afford to go for the winter she isn't living on my $790.00 a month social security check. Yes, I am another one of the deadbeat 47% who has worked for 56 years to survive. Many of them are very rich and do not have the same needs as the rest of us. My teacher retirement doesn't even pay for my house payment. Ryan reminded me of the kid in Sunday school who took it as his altar boy duty to be so deferential to the powers that be. I always wondered what was really going on with these kind of goody goody boys when nobody was looking? Some people do not feel comfortable coloring outside the lines. I suspect Ryan is a follow the rules and not look for any inspiration or interpretation, basically a good fellow in a shallow manner. I always remember that good people build the gas chambers....they follow rules because they can not discern truth from falsehood. How else could one explain Ayn Rand when you are in your forties?

Several things we do know about Ryan... he has a plan to change the rules for the masses of voters, while staying pat on his and the 1% percents quest for complete control over the Government...he has a plan to control women and open a cemented door to back-alley, unregulated abortions and criminal charges against females over women's health issues (shades of "bare-foot and pregnant)...he has a plan to interfere with or set back every achievement in civil rights and sexual rights (in effect heavily increasing the repression, hatred, and bullying between Americans)...he has a plan to bring back red-lining of poor minorities, cronyism, nepotism, domestic violence in the home against women (shades of "king of the castle").
When you erase the laws that add freedoms to all Americans, you will end up back in the early American "dark ages"!
Cal great post. You are right about what we do know as exhibited by what he answered last night in altar boy type of performance. My mind tends to go to a jury selection program and wonder what makes this guy who he is and can we trust him? I find it paradoxical that this seemingly smiling Irish face with the bright blue eyes would do social engineering from behind his angelic countenance.
If nothing woke women up last night it was the "best" question about abortion and not being available to women if this Romney Ryan ticket goes through. Young women today just think this will always be an option for them, they don't remember any other way. It reminded me of some African American young women whom I knew and that they could not relate to either slavery or to lack of civil rights. It was not in their experience and being so, they could not imagine a cruel America.
It was fabulous having a woman in charge to ask the "soft" questions since for some of us, it fleshes out the hardball ones in a way that hits home. Dark Ages, I wish that I did not see the way when a country is down that misogynistic fascists come to have great appeal and people will fall in line with their propaganda, to be safe themselves and to turn on their fellow citizens.
